Connecting Printer To AS400 |
The AS400 computers will not have a printer configuration for the Tally printers so if you are wanting a configuration for the printer, we recommend that you select the configuration for the Epson LQ2550. You will also need to set the printer into the Epson emulation. |
Performing A Hex Dump |
Switch the printer off. Press the Online key and switch on the printer. Keep the Online key pressed until "Test Mode" is seen in the printer display. When the printer has completed it's initialization, press the key under "Next" and then the key under "H-Dump". Now put the printer Online and send your data from the system. The data will be printed in Hex format. When the printing has finished, set the printer to offline and feed the paper out.
To return the printer to normal operation, switch the printer power off, wait 10 seconds and switch the printer power back on again.
|
Unlocking The Printer Menu |
To unlock the printer menu, switch the printer off. Press the Setup key and switch on the printer. Keep the Setup key pressed until "Online" is seen in the printer display. The menu is now unlocked and will remain unlocked until the power is switched off. If you wish to keep the menu unlocked during power off, then you must change the setting of the MenLock parameter within the menu.
|
Restoring Factory Defaults In The Printer |
To restore the factory defaults within the printer, switch the printer off. Press all four keys beneath the printer display and switch on the printer. Keep the keys pressed until "Initializing" is seen in the printer display. Your printer is now set to the factory default configuration.
|
Printing the Current Printer Setups |
Switch the printer power on. Press the Setup key to enter the menu settings. Press the key under "Menu", then press the key under "Print" and your current configuration will be printed.
|
Printing A Self Test Print |
Switch the printer power on while pressing the Online key and keep the Online key pressed until the display shows TESTMODE. You now need to make a selection between ASCII 80 (8 inch wide paper) and ASCII 136 (13.6 inch wide paper). Press the appropriate key to make your selection. You can now start and stop the test print by using the Online key as a toggle.
|
Online Single & Load |
When trying to print on continuous stationery, the display may show "Online Single Load". This will occur if the printer is expecting to print on single sheet paper even though you may want it to print on continuous paper. To clear the error follow this procedure.
- Take the printer off-line by pressing the Online key
- Press the Setup key
- Press the key under "Paperway" in the display
- Select Tractor 1 (or Tractor 2 if fitted/required)
- Press the key under "Set"
- If the job still refuses to print try loading the printer with a single sheet of paper to clear the command. To do this remove the tractor feed paper and close the cover on top of the tractors but not the outside cover. You will see a guide into which put a single sheet of paper and press the key under "Load" in the display.
- The printer should commence printing. If it does not, then press and hold the key under "LF/FF" to eject the single sheet. Now follow the instructions above again to select the Tractor. The display should read "Online Tractor Load". Load the tractor fed paper into the Tractors and press the key under "Load". The printer should now be ready to print. Check your software settings for the correct paper path type. Ensure that the display does not show "Manual" otherwise you will have to clear this error in the same manner as you have for Single sheet.

Setting Form Length |
- Measure with a ruler the size of the form in inches that you are going to use .
- Calculate the number of lines you have by relating it to the Line Density using the formula Form Length = Form Size * Line Density
- For example for 11 inch paper at 6 lpi = 11 * 6 = 66 Lines
- You must disable the Printers Menu Lock before you can change any settings - See Above
- Press SET UP button on the Control Panel.
- Select the MENU Option on the Control Panel Display.
- Select the NEXT Option on the Control Panel Display until PAPER is displayed.
- Select the PAPER Option on the Control Panel Display by pressing the button directly beneath it.
- Select the Desired Paper Path for the Form Length change - The different Paper Paths can be stepped through by using the NEXT Option on the Control Panel Display.
- Select Paper Path by pressing the button directly beneath it.
- Select FORMLEN by pressing the button directly beneath it.
- Select LINES and then increase or decrease the value on the Control Panel Display by using the two arrow buttons until the desired length in lines has been achieved.
- Select the SET Option on the Control Panel Display by pressing the button directly beneath it.
- Set the Printer back ON-LINE by pressing the ON-LINE button.
Printer is now ready for use with the correct Form Size selected.

|
To set the Tear Position, follow these instructions in the order given.
- Load the continuous stationery in the tractors and press the key under "Load" in the display. Set the printer to Offline.

- Press the Setup key and then press the key under "Adjust" in the display. The display will now show "Head TOF Tear".

To set the Tear by eye, press the keys under the < and > symbols in the display to set the perforation of the paper to the tear off edge of the top cover. To save the Tear position, press the key under "Set" in the display and then press the Setup key.
|
Setting Top Of Form |
To set the Top Of Form (TOF) first set the Tear Position as above and then follow these instructions in the following order

- Press the key under "TOF" and the display will show the current setting in 1/72 inch. The printer will also perform a form feed to the next page. The paper is fed to the position where the bottom edge of the first line printed is aligned with the tear edge of the top cover. The factory setting of the TOF is 12/72". You can adjust the TOF position by pressing the keys under the < and > symbols to decrement or increment the value. You can set values between 0 and 220/72" for fanfold paper.
- To store the setting of TOF, press the key under "Set" in the display and then press the Setup key.

Printing Via External Print Server |
When sending data to the printer via an external print server, problems can be experienced if the interface type is set as bi-directional. You should set the interface type to Uni-directional. This needs to be set in the print server (if an option) and in the printer. To set the correct interface type in the printer, switch the printer on with the Online key pressed to enter test mode. Then repetitively press the key under "Next" in the display until the display shows "CX-Bid". Press the key under "CX-Bid" in the display, then press the key under either < or > symbols to select Off. Now press the key under "Set" in the display to save the setting. Return the printer to normal operation by switching the printer off and then back on again.
